as with any property purchase its location that's important, especially for holiday homes access from abroad ease of transfers etc make a huge difference to the practicalities of lettings and visiting. also when you are there it pays to have somewhere where there is good access to all local sights and attractions or on a major route giving ease to explore the country. some background to he country and tourism you need to know if you want city center, beach, ski or country retreat. that's basically what Romania has to offer, the black sea coast area, and lots of mountains and lakes some very large, the skiing is good for at least 5 months and in the summer months water sports and outdoor activities are good. many tourists come in the summer months for road bike touring / dirt bike Enduro and 4x4 off road sport, Romania is one of the few places in Europe it is still permitted to go off road in the countryside with limited restrictions, unlike Germany and Austria Switzerland etc. in the winter a 4x4 is almost an essential. the temperatures vary dramatically from up to the low 40 c in the summer to winter getting as cold as -27 or more. a lot of Romanians have holiday homes on the black sea coast and also in the ski resorts. whilst tourism is still fairly new (since the mid nineties) increasing numbers of tourists are now coming and discovering an un-spoilt country free of major commercialism with deep rooted traditions and very welcoming citizens. Romania has some of the most stunning countryside steeped in natural beauty it is a paradise for fishing hunting shooting back packers hikers naturalists birdwatchers skiers fishermen sailors water sports off road sports fanatics and cultural enthusiasts. as well as those who just want to unwind in a laid back friendly low cost way taking in all this place has to offer, its history and traditions have been well preserved, many small villages have been unchanged for many years.
