generally most people in towns and cities live in blocks or apartments. the houses on the outskirts of town or in the center only occasionally become available for sale, the major bulk of the lettings market is in apartments, in the communist times when most of these were built they were all made to specific sizes in m2 number of rooms etc, so one is much like another, the only thing to consider is local preference and quality of area, plus the re furb spec, this can be cheap and cheerful or it can be, for a few pennies more top quality, the later giving by far the best return on investment. there are many for rent with few amenities or good decor, at low rental incomes but those with a lux appeal attract far more per month in rent. the initial investment is paid back very quickly. prices start very low for a bed sit, to a four or 5 bed apartment. costing more, the best areas to consider is 2 and 3 bed this is where the highest demand is. prices start as low as 8000 to 25000 gbp approx this depends on area city etc, you could probably buy an entire block for less than the cost of an average 4 bed house in the uk. average rental income is around 250 to 450 gbp per month these are only example figures if you look to the details on individual properties you will find more accurate figures.

town accommodation is well sought after especially in university towns, and those with major industry. many people live in the villages but work in the towns and prefer to rent apartments to save on travel, many sub let and share the costs.

the next area is villas or out of town properties, these start with 2 beds to 5 plus some luxury villas having pools annexes multiple garages outbuildings etc, for a typical 3 bed villa with annex out buildings 1500m2 land average around 90,000 sterling this is finished to a good standard less than 2km from a main city. in most uk cities you cant buy a bedsit for this....
